Bariatric surgery is a weight loss procedure that is done to treat obesity. Individuals suffering from severe obesity and associated problems choose to undergo bariatric surgery.
Sleeve Gastrectomy: It is also known as gastric sleeve or vertical sleeve gastrectomy where the stomach size is reduced by 80%. The remaining portion of the stomach, which appears in the shape of a banana, is connected to the small intestine.
Gastric bypass: It is the most common type of weight-loss surgery also known as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. During this surgery, a small pouch is created that bypasses the stomach and is connected to the small intestine.

For patients who are not involved in strenuous activities, they can get back to work within 1-2 weeks after getting a lap-band surgery. For those who undergo gastric sleeve or bypass, it is recommended to wait for 2-4 weeks before they resume work.
All foods with empty calories should be avoided after bariatric surgery. One should avoid any form of sugary drinks and caffeinated drinks for a month after surgery.
Apart from treating obesity, bariatric surgery is a boom that can improve health conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, arthritis, and many other diseases.
