LDH (Lactate Dehydrogenase) is a blood test that measures the level of LDH in the blood. LDH is an enzyme found in many body tissues and is important for energy production. The LDH test can help diagnose and monitor a variety of medical conditions, such as heart attack, liver disease, anemia, and certain cancers.
Here are some general guidelines to prepare for the LDH test:
Medications: Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements. Some medications can affect the results of the test, so your doctor may ask you to stop taking certain medications before the test.
Timing: LDH levels can vary throughout the day, so your doctor may ask you to schedule the test for a specific time of day.
Sample collection: The LDH test requires a blood sample.
It is recommended:
- In the case of the risk factors for heart disease like smoking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, or a family history of heart disease
- In diagnosed cases of heart disease
In the case of a person taking lipid-lowering medicines
- As a part of the lipid profile along with cholesterol, triglycerides, and HDL
- As a part of the routine health check-ups
You will get the reports within 6 hours after the collection of the blood sample.
This test requires a blood sample, which can be collected at a diagnostic lab or at home with a home blood collection kit.
Fasting is not required for this test.
