Here are some general guidelines to prepare for a Uric Acid test:
Sample collection: We require a blood sample for this test. This test can be taken at any time, but it is recommended to take the test in the morning to avoid any influence from food or other factors.
Medications: Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking, as certain medications can affect the results of the Uric Acid test. Your doctor may recommend that you temporarily stop taking certain medications before the test.
Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, before the test. Dehydration can cause an increase in uric acid levels.
It is recommended that you consult with your doctor or the laboratory to know the specific instructions for the Uric Acid test.
It is recommended:
- To monitor gout upon the appearance of symptoms
- In cancer patients being treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, monitoring their Uric Acid levels is important
- To analyse the efficacy of medications that lower Uric Acid levels
- To check the risks of kidney stones or to determine the causes of recurrent kidney stones
- People with gout suffer from joint pain, most often in the toes, but in the other joints as well
You will get the reports within 6 hours after the collection of the blood sample.
This test requires a blood sample, which can be collected at a diagnostic lab or at home with a home blood collection kit.
Fasting is not required for this test.
