Whipple surgery is a major surgical procedure where part of the organ is removed or rearranged. It is a painful operation and the process of recovery is slow.
Some of the common side effects witnessed after Whipple surgery are leakage of pancreatic fluid from the incision site, emptying of your stomach after eating food gets slower, weight loss, and change in bowel habits.
It might take two months to recover from Whipple surgery. However, in some cases, it might even take up to six months for complete recovery from the procedure.
Usually, it is not advised to drive for at least up to six weeks after the surgery. However, this time period might even extend depending on your health condition. Hence, do not drive a vehicle without getting confirmation from your doctor.
Weight loss is one of the side effects or complications post-Whipple surgery. A person who underwent Whipple surgery losses 5-10% of the body weight. If the weight is more than 5-10% please approach immediate medical attention or consult a registered dietician.
