Here are some general guidelines to prepare for an Anti-TPO test:
Medications: Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking, as certain medications can affect the results of the Anti-TPO test. Your doctor may recommend that you temporarily stop taking certain medications before the test.
Timing: The test is usually performed in the morning as the levels of the antibodies can vary throughout the day.
We require a blood sample for this test.
It is recommended to diagnose the autoimmune disorders of the thyroid like:
- Hashimoto's thyroiditis (swelling of the thyroid gland resulting in decreased thyroid function)
- Grave's disease (overactivity of the thyroid gland resulting in the overproduction of thyroid hormones), or
- Idiopathic myxoedema (associated with low levels of thyroid hormones)
They differentiate between the autoimmune disorders of the thyroid and non-autoimmune disorders, such as Goitre or hypothyroidism
To diagnose chronic thyroiditis
To diagnose subclinical hypothyroidism
You will get the reports within 7 hours after the collection of the blood sample.
This test requires a blood sample, which can be collected at a diagnostic lab or at home with a home blood collection kit.
